Surgery and Rehab After a Traumatic Foot Injury

Tendon ruptures, broken bones … no one much cares for the experience of a traumatic foot injury. Although in some cases even significant injuries might be treatable conservatively, severe traumas often will require a surgical repair, realignment, or reconstruction.

Surgery & Rehab After a Foot InjuryThe good news is that, with Family Foot & Ankle Center, you have a team of experienced and dedicated foot surgeons on your side. Our podiatrists offer training in advanced techniques, such as joint replacement and reconstruction of complex deformities. We’ll do everything we can to ensure surgery is successful and effective.

That being said, no matter how great your surgeon is—and no matter how state-of-the-art your procedure was—the truth is that the surgery itself is only the first component of a successful treatment and recovery. Much still depends on you!

In the days and weeks after surgery, appropriate rehabilitation will be critical to helping you recover as quickly as possible, regain strength and mobility, and decrease the likelihood that you will suffer a repeat of your former injury. For most surgeries, the recovery phase will last at least 6-8 weeks, and possibly several months. Typically, there will be a schedule you’ll have to follow that will determine how long you have to avoid weight bearing activity, when you can go back to wearing normal shoes, and when and how you can begin rehabilitation stretches and exercises.

We get it—no one enjoys the long, slow road to full recovery. But you aren’t alone! Your team at Family Foot & Ankle will support you with detailed instructions, thorough follow-up appointments, daily and weekly goals, and guidance you need to see you to the end of recovery as quickly as possible. By the end, we want you to be as strong as before—or even stronger!

Far too often, surgeons will perform the operation and send you out the door without the support or knowledge you need to make the most of your rehab. You won’t receive that kind of treatment here!
