Are You Ready for Summer, Cincinnati?

Are you getting ready for another great summer in Cincinnati? We can hardly wait!

For starters, Taste of Cincinnati is less than a month away—if you want more specific tips on how to make the most of that event, check out our blog from a couple of weeks ago. And there’s lots more to do and explore over the next several months, whatever your tastes.

But are your feet up to the task? More on that in a minute. First, a sneak preview at a few events we’re already super excited about!

What Are Your Summer Plans, Cincinnati?

Here’s just a small handful of great events coming your way this summer:

Summerfair (June 1-3). Founded in 1968 and held annually ever since, Summerfair is one of the oldest continuous art fairs in the United States. Located at Coney Island, you’ll find hundreds of local artists exhibiting and selling their work, listening to great local musicians, and enjoying tasty gourmet food. The $10 admission fee and official merch sales help fund scholarships and special awards for emerging high school and college artists and small to mid-sized arts organizations.

Bunbury Music Festival (June 1-3). The biggest single music festival in Cincinnati, Bunbury is a celebration of alternative rock. The 2018 edition will be headlined by the Chainsmokers, Blink-182, Incubus, and Jack White, and supported by the likes of Third Eye Blind and Dropkick Murphy’s.

Cincinnati Music Festival (July 26-28). Paul Brown Stadium is sure to be packed for one of the largest and most star-studded celebrations of R&B in the country. This year’s lineup includes Charlie Wilson, Boyz II Men, Jill Scott, The Roots, The O’Jays, and more.

Glier’s Goettafest (August 2-6). A four-day festival dedicated to goetta? Anywhere else it’d be madness, but in Cincinnati (technically Newport, KY) it’s a no-brainer. Goetta nachos? Goetta fries? Goetta rangoon? You’ll be blown away by the creativity of the area’s top culinary artists, while you enjoy the live music, fun games, kids’ activities, and more.

Brew Ha-Ha (August 24-25). 100 beers. Local food. A rotating cast of 50 or so area comedians (and a few headliners) at four different stages. If you want to drink, belly-laugh, and generally have a good time, Sawyer Point Park and America’s largest beer and comedy festival is the place to be. Admission is free, and a portion of proceeds goes to support local charities, including The Cure Starts Now.

Cincinnati Riverfest (September 2). Don’t let summer go gently into that good night. Send it off with a bang at one of the Midwest’s largest annual fireworks displays, at 9:05 p.m. on Labor Day. A half million or so will be packing the banks of the Ohio River—don’t you want to be one of them?

Are You Ready for Fun?

summer walk

If you’re looking to spend some time in the sun enjoying the festivals—or just exploring a new neighborhood, new hiking trail, or new bike path—you’d better make sure you’re physically and mentally up to the challenge.

  • Get a comfy pair of walking shoes. You’re going to need all the cushioning, arch support, and stability you can get if you’re planning to spend all day on your feet.
  • Don’t forget the sunscreen! Apply liberally and often to protect your skin. Don’t forget the tops of your feet, if you plan to wear open-toed shoes or walking sandals.
  • Sunglass and a hat aren’t a bad idea, either. Extra sun protection for your face and your eyes. Make sure those sunglasses have both UV-A and UV-B protection.
  • Dress for the weather. We don’t have to tell you how hot and sticky it can get in Cincinnati in the summer. And many of the big festivals are outdoor-only, rain or shine. Make sure you can keep yourself cool and keep yourself dry.
  • Bring plenty of water. You need to stay hydrated, and not just with soda and beer! Bringing along a good supply of water is essential, especially if it’s hot out.

Of course, if the mere thought of more than a few minutes on your feet is already causing you painful feelings in your heels, you might want to consider a pre-summer tune-up from Family Foot & Ankle.
